From the Kalahari Dunes to the Cliffs of the Atlantic Ocean
A self-drive itinerary that traverses the spectacular landscapes of the Northern Cape to Cape Town, combining nature, freedom and South African charm.
From the red dunes of the Kgalagadi, to the cascades of Augrabies, from the colours of the Namaqualand to the mountains of the Cederberg, to the Cederberg, to the’elegance of the Winelands and the vitality of the Mother City.
An authentic journey, for those who wish to explore South Africa at their own pace, staying in charming lodges and guesthouses selected for comfort and location.
Day 1 – Arrival in Upington
Arrival at Upington airport, collection of hire car (Toyota Hilux Double Cab or similar) and short transfer to the lodge.
Free time to relax along the Orange River.
Overnight stay: Le Must River Residence – Breakfast (BB)
Day 2 – Upington → Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (260 km)
Departure for the majestic Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, a 3.6 million hectare area on the border with Botswana, famous for its red dunes and black-maned lions.
Entrance through the Twee Rivieren Gate and on to the lodge, located in a panoramic position overlooking the Kalahari salt flats.

Day 3 – Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park / !Xaus Lodge
Full day dedicated to the activities offered by the lodge: 4x4 safaris at sunrise and sunset, nature walks with San guides, stargazing and relaxing moments in the silence of the desert.
Accommodation: !Xaus Lodge – Chalet – Full Board (FB)
Day 4 – Kgalagadi → Augrabies Falls National Park (350 km)
Return to Twee Rivieren and depart for Augrabies Falls, where the Orange River forms spectacular gorges and waterfalls over 60 metres high.
Visit the park's viewpoints and walk along the suspension bridges.
Overnight stay: Dundi Lodge Augrabies Falls – Deluxe Room – Breakfast (BB)
Day 5 – Augrabies → Springbok (400 km)
Passing through rural villages and desert landscapes we reach Springbok, the capital of Namaqualand.
Accommodation: Springbok Inn – King Room – Breakfast (BB)
Day 6 – Excursion to Namaqua National Park
Full day dedicated to visiting Namaqua National Park, which in spring (August–September) transforms into a sea of colourful flowers.
Accommodation: Springbok Inn – King Room – Breakfast (BB)
Day 7 – Excursion to Hondeklip Bay (round trip)
Day dedicated to the Atlantic coast and the remote fishing village of Hondeklip Bay.
Return to Springbok in the late afternoon.

Day 8 – Springbok → Lambert ’s Bay (310 km)
Travelling south along the west coast to Lambert’s Bay, a picturesque seaside resort known for Bird Island, home to Cape Gannets and seals nesting.
Accommodation: Lambert’s Bay Hotel – Sea Facing Double Room – Breakfast (BB)
Day 9 – Lambert’s Bay → Cederberg Mountains (220 km)
Depart for the Cederberg Mountains, a region of spectacular landscapes and rock carvings of the San.
Stay in an exclusive lodge surrounded by nature, with included activities such as scenic hikes and stargazing.
Overnight Stay: Simbavati Cederberg Ridge – Classic Courtyard Room – Full Board with Activities (FB)
Day 10 – Cederberg → West Coast National Park (250 km)
Continue to the West Coast National Park, a protected area famous for its turquoise lagoons and white dunes.
Overnight stay: The Farmhouse Hotel – Langebaan – Breakfast (BB)
Day 11 – West Coast → Cape Winelands (180 km)
Depart for the wine region of Franschhoek, amidst mountains, vineyards and historic wineries.
Wine tasting and local products.
Overnight stay: Lavender Farm Guest House – Manor Room – Breakfast (BB)
Day 12 – Cape Winelands → Cape Town (80 km)
Arrival in beautiful Cape Town, free time to visit the town or climb Table Mountain.
Overnight Stay: The Portswood Hotel – Standard Room – Breakfast (BB)
Day 13 – Cape Town: Cape Peninsula
Excursion along the spectacular Cape Peninsula to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope, with stops at Hout Bay, Chapman’s Peak Drive and Boulders Beach.
Overnight Stay: The Portswood Hotel – Standard Room – Breakfast (BB)
Day 14 – Cape Town → Return
Last day at leisure for shopping or relaxation before releasing the car at the airport and flying back.
