Northern Madagascar boasts an extraordinary variety of natural environments.

In just a few days, you’ll journey from the limestone formations and caves of Ankarana to the turquoise waters of the Emerald Sea, from the tropical forest of the Amber Mountains to the almost surreal landscapes of the Tsingy Rouge.

The journey continues along the coast and ends in Nosy Be, where days are set aside for enjoying the sea and relaxing.

Detailed itinerary:

Day 1 – 9 October 2026 – Departure from Milan

Departure from Milan Malpensa Airport at 23:40 on an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Addis Ababa. Meals and overnight stay on board. 

Day 2 – 10 October 2026 – Arrival in Nosy Be

Arrival atAddis Ababa Airport at 07:20. After a stopover of 3 hours and 15 minutes, departure at 10:35 on an Ethiopian Airlines flight bound for Madagascar. Arrival at Nosy Be Airport at 14:45. Meet and greet at the airport, a brief briefing on the trip and transfer to the island’s west coast. Check-in at the Loharano Hotel and the rest of the afternoon at leisure to relax after the journey.

Day 3 – 11 October 2026 – Nosy Be – Ankify – East Ankarana – Diego Suarez

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Hell-Ville harbour and boarding of a speedboat bound for Ankify. On arrival, meet thedriver and continue by road to Mahamasina, the gateway to the East Ankarana National Park. Tour of the park accompanied by a certified Madagascar National Parks guide. Ankarana is renowned for its limestone formations, canyons, caves and vegetation, which is home to various species of lemurs, reptiles and birds. Lunch at a local restaurant (included, drinks not included). In the afternoon, on to Diego Suarez and check-in at the hotel.

Day 4 – 12 October 2026 – Excursion to the Emerald Sea

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the village of Ramena and departure by traditional boat for a’full-day excursion to the Emerald Sea. This vast lagoon owes its name to the turquoise and green hues of its waters and is characterised by coral reefs, white sandy beaches and small islands. During the day, you’ll have the chance to go snorkelling, stroll along the beach and relax in a setting that remains unspoilt. Lunch on the island is included (drinks not included). Return to Diego Suarez in the afternoon, with times subject to sea and tide conditions.

Day 5 – 13 October 2026 – Montagne d’Ambre National Park

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for the Ambre Mountains National Park, a protected area characterised by rainforest, waterfalls, volcanic lakes and rich biodiversity. The tour will take place on foot, accompanied by a certified Madagascar National Parks. Along the trails, you’ll be able to spot various plant species, chameleons, birds and, with a bit of luck, some lemurs. Lunch at a local restaurant (included, drinks not included) or at an establishment with a colonial atmosphere. Return to Diego Suarez in the afternoon.

Day 6 – 14 October 2026 – The Diego Suarez and Ramena Bays

Breakfast at the hotel. A day dedicated to exploring the spectacular Diego Suarez Bays, with coastal views, beaches, villages and historical sites. The itinerary is expected to include:

• Sakalava Bay;
• Pigeon Bay;
• Dune Bay;
• the village of Orangea;
• ruins and remnants from the colonial period;
• the fishing village of Ramena.

Lunch in Ramena (included, drinks not included). Return to Diego Suarez in the afternoon.

Day 7 – 15 October 2026 – Diego Suarez – Tsingy Rouge – Ambilobe

Breakfast and departure southwards. En route, a detour to visit the Tsingy Rouge Canyon, one of the most&distinctive landscapes of northern Madagascar. Unlike the limestone Tsingy, these formations are composed of sandstone, marl and laterite. Erosion by water and wind has created slender spires of red, ochre and white, creating an almost surreal scene. Time set aside for the visit and for taking photographs. Lunch at a local restaurant (included, drinks not included), followed by the journey on to Ambilobe. Arrival and check-in at the hotel.

Day 8 – 16 October 2026 – Ambilobe – Ankify – Nosy Be

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Ankify harbour and boarding a speedboat bound for Nosy Be. Arrival at Hell-Ville harbour and transfer to the island’s west coast. Check-in at the Loharano Hotel and the rest of the day at leisure to relax at the hotel or on the beach.

Day 9 – 17 October 2026 – Nosy Be: relaxation by the sea

Breakfast at the hotel. A full day at your leisure to spend by the sea, at the pool and relaxing. You will possible to take part, if you wish, in one of the organised excursions to the islands of the archipelago, such as Nosy Komba, Nosy Tanikely or Nosy Iranja. Any optional activities are not included in the price and are subject to weather and sea conditions.

Day 10 – 18 October 2026 – Nosy Be and departure for Italy

Breakfast at the hotel. Free time until the scheduled transfer to Nosy Be Airport. Departure at 15:45 on an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Addis Ababa. Arrival in Addis Ababa at 19:45. After a stopover of 4 hours and 30 minutes, departure at 00:15 on a direct flight to Milan Malpensa. Meals and overnight stay on board.

Day 11 – 19 October 2026 - Arrival in Italy

Arrival at Milan Malpensa Airport at 05:50. End of services.

Accommodation on the trip

Loharano Hotel – Nosy Be: The Loharano Hotel is situated on the west coast of Nosy Be, in a peaceful area ideal for a few days’ relaxation. The hotel features bungalows set within a tropical garden, a swimming pool, a restaurant and areas dedicated to relaxation. Accommodation will initially be in a Pool View bungalow with breakfast included. At the end of the tour, there will be a further two nights on a half-board basis.

Hotel Allamanda – Diego Suarez: The Hotel Allamanda is situated in Diego Suarez, conveniently situated for reaching the town centre and the main areas visited during the excursions. Accommodation is for four nights in a Standard room with breakfast included.

Kozobe Hotel – Ambilobe: The Kozobe Hotel offers practical accommodation during the stopover between Diego Suarez and Nosy Be. Accommodation is for one night in a Comfort room on a half-board basis.

Travelling in Northern Madagascar in October

October is one of the best times to visit northern Madagascar.

Rainfall is generally still low, the days are warm, and conditions are favourable for both visits to the parks and seaside activities.

The vegetation retains its tropical character and in the parks you can spot lemurs, chameleons, birds and numerous endemic species.

A stay in Nosy Be also generally enjoys pleasant temperatures and warm waters. However, boat trips remain subject to weather and sea conditions.
